Exploring Color: The Limited Approach to Expressive Painting

*SOLD OUT*  Dec 4 - Dec 18 2024
Online course with Winslow Art Center

In this course Richard K. Blades will be exploring the possibilities of using a limited palette to better understand color mixing and its applications in expressive landscape painting. It will help unlock the mysteries of color in a simple but effective process that requires no previous knowledge of color theory. Basing his approach on a three color (plus white) palette, we will be discovering the use of color triads for creating mood and variety within expression.

Color triads are based on variations of the three primaries or equally, three secondaries

Examples of which are:

Ultramarine Blue – Cadmium Yellow – Cadmium Red

Phthalocyanine (Winsor) Blue – Yellow Ochre – Burnt Sienna

Dioxazine (Winsor) Violet – Cadmium Orange – Phthalocyanine (Winsor) Green

With lots of demonstrations, exercises and painting time, this course is an interactive exploration into color and its applications.

Richard will be using Gouache (By Winsor & Newton). However you are welcome to use Acrylic or Oil (Not Watercolor)
